Change to railway traffic energy taxation

The Parliament of Finland has decided to change energy taxation legislation. As a consequence of the amendment of the law, the taxation of liquid fuels used in rail traffic rises by 7.35 cents per litre. The change in taxation takes effect at the start of 2011.

The change in taxation increases rail logistics costs by 0.8 %.

The effect on costs is focused on services produced using diesel tractive power, i.e.: rail services on the main lines, pickup-delivery and shunting. The cost is calculated on a customer-specific basis based on usage of diesel tractive power in the above work performances.

The fuel tax surcharge is invoiced as subsequent invoicing from 1 January 2011.

The charge in question results from a change in taxation and is valid until further notice.
